A Perfect Day

If I had 24 hours to live, first off, I definitely wouldn’t go to school. I would have my mom cook my favorite meal for every meal of the day. I would get together with my entire family and friends who I would invite to a party.

In the morning, I would wake up and I would have a meal of 3 slices of toast burnt a little but not too burnt, with jelly and butter on it, I would have 4 patty type of sausages, 2 eggs, and 6 slices of bacon, and I would have a big glass of orange juice. After this I would watch college football or NFL if it was on. By that time the morning would be over and it’d be probably about 2:30.

By now it would be afternoon and I would start calling my favorite relatives and my best friends, and possibly good friends who I haven’t spoken with for a long time. I would get together with these people and my uncles house because my uncles house has a big pool with a diving board and pool house and a trampoline. I would get a bunch of food like hamburgers, hot dogs, ribs, rice pilaf, chicken, salad with Italian dressing, green beans, and mashed potatoes with gravy. But most importantly I would talk with all of these people about past memories and funny stuff that happened in life and just laugh and have a good time.

Once this over it would be like 7:30 pm. I would go to the Livonia Rec Center and I would play basketball and football with people that I usually play basketball with up there. I would invite some of my friends there. I would definitely play my hardest and would make sure I smoke everybody and play like it’s my last time playing because it would be, then I would toss around the football. I would play until around 10:30 or 11 then I would go back to my house and I would have it planned for my best friends to all stay the night at my house and I would hang out with my parents and them, I would order 15 dominos large pepperoni pizzas. I would play games like Halo 3, Gears of War 2, Call of Duty 4 and Nazi Zombies on Call of Duty: World at War. We would play all of this on the XBOX 360 which would be hooked up with Full HD on my front screen TV which actually is a brand new Flat Screen with full HD and is a 62”. We would do this until like 5 am. Then we would watch a brand new movie which is a new release with like a bunch of my favorite salted butter popcorn and we’d also have a bunch of Butterzinger ice cream! Then I would make phone calls to people important to me and tell them I love them and blah blah blah, then I would tell my parents and the friends that are over my house bye and that my funeral better kick butt, and my grave stone better be a gravestone that is like 50 feet in the air and says JUSTIN McCULLEY THE GREAT on it.

In 10 Years...

In Ten years I imagine myself living in an apartment rooming with friends, some people who are friends, the funny thing is I’ve actually had discussions with some good friends about possibly rooming in college or after college. My best friend Sean and I have both said we want to go to Michigan State University and that we could room together there and then after college probably room at an at least descent apartment and maybe even a house if we get 1 or 2 more people to room with. If we have girlfriends by then which we probably will because we’ll be 24 then they’ll probably live there too.
After college I will want to live in cities such as Livonia, Canton, Westland, Ann Arbor, etc. I will definitely get around by a car and I will want like an F-150 and I would also like a camaro or something but that will be hard to afford both of those and camaro’s do not drive well during winter.
I don’t exactly know yet where I want to work, but I’ve had some thoughts about it… Something like a police officer, or something in business like at a bank or in an office building. I just don’t want to have to break my back every day at work, like my dad who works at Ford and always tells me to get a job that I don’t have to do so and wear out my body to make money.
In my spare time, obviously there will be a lot more to do because I’m aloud to do anything and there’s no adult who can stop me, so I’ll probably party and go out every weekend, I’ll probably get a little lazy and not want to cook so I’ll probably order pizza a lot and go out to eat a lot and get fast food quite a bit. I’ll also still try to eat pretty healthy, like I’m still going to work out at a gym and run sometimes.
I definitely will want to travel when I’m older, like I definitely want to go to Europe one day to like Ireland or Scotland or Germany or Italy. I want to go to Hawaii one day and Mexico or like somewhere in latin America.

Dirk the Protector

Vocabulary
Menace- a troublesome or annoying person.
Conventional- usual; traditional.
Predatory- stealing or hurting others.
Forerunners- one that comes before and indicates the approach of another.
Impasse- situation which no progress can be made.
Brindled- light brownish, yellow, or grayish hair with streaks of a darker color.

Connections
“There weren’t many boys willing to do the work but with so few alleys, it was still very hard to earn much money. A dollar a night was not uncommon and three was outstanding.” This definitely had to have been a long time ago because now minimum wage for just 1 hour is like 6 or 7 dollars and he is only getting paid 1 dollar a whole night.

Questions
“It would be nice to put it another way but what with the drinking at home and the difficulties it caused with my parents I couldn’t live in the house.” Where is he going to live?
“I was not afraid of work and spent most of my summers working on farms for two, three and finally five dollars a day.” Is this the older years like 1930’s, ‘40s, ‘50s?
“Because I was from ‘the wrong side of the tracks’ I didn’t think I could go to the authorities. It all seemed hopeless. And then I met Dirk.” Who is Dirk? Did Dirk protect him?
“There was a head and a back, and as my eyes became accustomed to the dark I could see that it had scraggly, scruffy hair and two eyes that glowed yellow.” Is this a dog? Will this animal attack him?
“I was just getting my stride, legs and arms pumping, pulling air with a heaving chest, when I rounded into the latest group of boys who were terrorizing me.” Will the attack him? Will the dog that he gave half a burger to possibly help him?

Interesting/Important Sentences/Passages

“That night one of the bowlers had bowled a perfect game-300-and in celebration had bought the pit boys hamburgers and cokes. I had put the burger and coke in a bag to take back to my basement” He doesn’t have much money so he is saving the burger and coke for when he is actually hungry.
“The problem was the hamburger smelled so good and I was so hungry. I decided to give the beast under the stairs half a burger.” He is probably giving the beast under the stairs half a burger to show he is friendly so the beast doesn’t attack him for the whole thing or just to attack him.
“Happy took a swing at me. Dirk took him right in the middle. I mean bit him in the center of the stomach, hard, before Happy’s first could get to me. Happy screamed and doubled over and Dirk went around and ripped into his rear and kept tearing at it even as Happy and his two companions fled down the street.” Dirk helped him again so obviously they have a good cycle going on which is the boy feeds the dog, and the dog helps him when he is about to get mugged. “He caused Happy and his mob to change their habits. They not only stopped hunting me but went out of their way to avoid me, or more specifically, Dirk.” He helped the boy
